PTFE Adhesive Hoses Automotive Manufacturing
Case Details
Automotive assembly lines require reliable adhesive delivery between the supply unit and application tool. Hose selection is influenced by temperature, pressure, hose routing, and robot movement.
We supply SPIR STAR® PTFE hoses for automotive bonding, hot melt transfer, and adhesive dispensing systems. The F-series combines a PTFE inner core with steel reinforcement for demanding industrial service.
Before requesting a quotation, explore the PTFE hose construction, compare automotive hose options, or review the assembly specification checklist.
PTFE Hose Construction for Adhesive Transfer
The adhesive and its operating conditions must be compatible with the hose material. SPIR STAR F-series KF hoses feature a PTFE inner core, two layers of high-tensile steel-wire reinforcement, and an outer braided steel-wire layer.
Each part serves a clear purpose:
| Construction feature | Role in the hose |
| PTFE inner core | Serves as the fluid contact surface for compatible adhesives and process media |
| Two steel-wire reinforcement layers | Provide support for the hose under internal pressure |
| Outer steel-wire braid | Constitutes the external braided structure |
| Flexible hose format | Enables routing between equipment and application tools |
This construction provides a basis for high-temperature adhesive transfer. However, the complete assembly also needs suitable fittings, protection, and routing.
KF hoses function as base hoses for heating hose systems. Therefore, heating, insulation, temperature sensors, and controls must be specified as part of the complete system.
Temperature and Pressure Performance
The F-series offers hoses capable of withstanding temperatures up to 200°C, which is equivalent to 392°F. Certain sizes provide working pressures up to 50 MPa, or 500 bar, which is approximately 7,250 psi, under the specified reference conditions.
These are series limits. The permitted pressure depends on the hose model, operating temperature, fittings, and service conditions.
As temperature rises, the allowable working pressure must be adjusted in accordance with the applicable manufacturer data. Therefore, buyers should confirm the pressure rating at the actual adhesive temperature.
For purchasing approval, compare three values together: the required process temperature, maximum system pressure, and permitted assembly pressure at that temperature.
Hose Options for Automotive Production
The following products are designed to meet adhesive transfer and production-area cleaning requirements.
| Hose model | Application focus | Main selection points |
| 8/2KF | Hot melt adhesive transfer | Required flow, installation space, and routing |
| 16/2KF | Hot melt adhesive transfer | Hose bore, pressure rating, and assembly length |
| 20/2KF | Hot melt adhesive transfer | Flow demand, handling, and connection dimensions |
| 8mmUHP | High-pressure cleaning of paint-shop grates | Cleaning equipment pressure, flow, and tool connections |
Model names alone do not define the complete assembly. Confirm the actual internal diameter, outside diameter, bend radius, and current pressure rating before ordering.
For example, a larger bore may help meet a higher flow requirement. At the same time, it changes hose weight, routing space, and handling needs.

Hoses for Robotic Adhesive Dispensing
Robotic application systems require the hose to follow the planned movement without tight bends, twisting, or contact with surrounding equipment.
Begin by examining the full robot travel path. Then, assess the available hose length, support points, fitting clearance, and movement near the dispensing head.
Dynamic service also requires a suitable bend radius. The minimum radius listed for a fixed installation may require adjustment when the hose moves repeatedly.
Additionally, the finished design requires appropriate protection for KF base hoses against wire corrosion. Discuss the outer protection and operating environment during assembly selection.
These checks help equipment builders define a hose arrangement that fits the cell and supports planned maintenance.
Match the Hose to the Adhesive Process
Adhesives differ in composition, viscosity, and application temperature. As a result, hose selection should begin with the actual process material.
Provide the adhesive supplier’s technical data and the required flow rate. Also, identify cleaning agents or flushing fluids that will contact the hose.
For hot melt systems, review the heating arrangement across the transfer path. The hose, connections, and application tool must suit the required temperature conditions.
PTFE offers useful chemical and temperature resistance, but compatibility still needs confirmation for the specific adhesive and cleaning process.
High-Pressure Cleaning in Automotive Plants
Automotive facilities also use high-pressure hoses for maintenance tasks, including paint-shop grate cleaning.
The listed 8mmUHP hose addresses this separate cleaning duty. Select it according to the cleaning unit, water flow, tool connections, and approved assembly pressure.
For procurement records, keep the adhesive transfer hose specifications and cleaning hose requirements clearly identified. This helps maintenance teams order the correct replacement for each task.
How to Specify an Automotive Adhesive Hose
A complete inquiry helps technical teams review suitability and allows purchasing teams to compare quotations. Include:
-
Adhesive type, composition, and viscosity.
-
Normal and maximum operating temperatures.
-
Working pressure, pressure peaks, and operating cycles.
-
Required flow and hose internal diameter.
-
Finished assembly length and connection details.
-
Fixed or robotic installation, movement, and routing limits.
-
Heating, insulation, sensor, and outer protection requirements.
-
Quantity, delivery needs, and required inspection documents.
For replacements, also provide the existing hose reference, equipment model, and fitting details.
