Burst Test Rig for Tube and Pipe
News Details
Hoses, pipes and hydraulic components are often subject to repeated pressure changes during operation. Pressure pulse testing helps manufacturers assess the performance of their products under specified cyclic loads.
We develop pressure pulse testing systems for product development, design comparisons, system optimisation and component fatigue testing. Our equipment combines adjustable pressure and pulse frequency with waveform selection and temperature control options.
Discover our pulse test specifications, review pressure waveform options or prepare a test equipment specification for your project.
Independent development and customised system design
Our pulse test benches are developed independently based on practical application requirements and established pressure testing principles.
We can design different system configurations for the component to be tested. The requirements may include pressure cycling alone or a combination of control of the test fluid temperature and the temperature of the surrounding chamber.
This flexibility allows buyers to configure the equipment according to their actual test programme. For example, a hose development laboratory may require several waveform options, while a production team may focus on a repeatable cycle for a product family.
Before design approval, we jointly review the required pressure, sample volume, pulse rate, temperature conditions and fixture arrangement.
Technical specifications for pressure pulse testing systems
The following parameters provide a starting point for technical discussions.
| Parameter | Available specifications |
| Test pressure | Adjustable within 0–200 MPa |
| Pulse frequency | Adjustable from 0.1–2 Hz |
| Pressure waveforms | Basic square, trapezoidal, triangular, sinusoidal and water hammer profiles |
| Test medium | Hydraulic oil and other approved compatible liquids |
| Test fluid temperature | Ambient temperature up to 150°C |
| Fluid temperature control accuracy | ±3°C |
| Low temperature environment | Configuration for −45°C chamber conditions |
| System cooling | Water cooling, air cooling or an agreed arrangement |
| Power supply | 380 V / 50 Hz |
The final operating range depends on the selected configuration. The maximum pressure, frequency, temperature and sample volume must be checked together.
The pressure control accuracy should also be confirmed in the quotation. The specification should specify the tolerance, measuring range and whether the accuracy refers to the full scale or the measured value.
Pressure waveforms and pulse frequency
The waveform selection determines how the pressure changes during each cycle. It is therefore a key part of the test specification.
A square or trapezoidal profile can define high and low pressure periods. Triangular and sinusoidal profiles show different pressure changes. A water hammer profile simulates a specific transient pressure event.
However, specifying a waveform alone is not sufficient. Buyers should also define the peak pressure, minimum pressure, rise and fall times, hold times and permissible deviations.
The adjustable frequency range of 0.1–2 Hz supports different cycle requirements. Check the achievable frequency for the selected waveform, pressure range and connected sample volume.
These details provide both engineering teams with a clear basis for reviewing the proposed system.

Temperature control of fluids and chambers
Temperature can affect hose materials, seals, fittings and the behaviour of the test fluid. For this reason, the test bench can be equipped with fluid temperature control and ambient conditioning.
The specified fluid temperature range extends from ambient temperature to 150°C with a specified control accuracy of ±3°C.
A low temperature chamber configuration can provide environmental conditions of −45°C. This refers to the ambient test environment; it does not define the temperature of the test fluid.
For combined tests, specify the required fluid and chamber temperatures separately. Also specify the stabilization periods and where the temperature should be measured.
The cooling system should be designed for the planned duty cycle and the on-site utilities. Water-cooled and air-cooled options can be discussed when selecting the system.
Applications for hose and component manufacturers
Our pulse testing systems are used for a variety of product groups.
| Product group | Typical test focus |
| High pressure hoses | Resistance to repeated internal pressure |
| Rubber hoses for construction machinery | Pressure cycling under defined fluid conditions |
| Hydraulic pipes and assemblies | Fatigue behavior of pipes, joints and connections |
| Air conditioning and refrigeration lines | Pressure cycling with specified media and temperatures |
| Automobile brake lines | Durability under an approved pressure cycle |
| New hydraulic components | Design comparison and development testing |
For comparative tests, keep the pressure cycle, temperature, installation geometry and acceptance criteria constant. This makes the results more useful when evaluating changes to a product design.
Match the test bench to the test procedure
The equipment specification should comply with the applicable product requirements and the approved test method.
For example, ISO 6803 describes hydraulic pressure pulse testing without bending for rubber or plastic hose assemblies. If your project uses this method, please provide the required edition and detailed test conditions for a capability review.
Also check whether the samples remain stationary or need to be moved during the test. Bending, fixture geometry and connection options affect the design of the equipment.
Define the required number of cycles, inspection intervals and failure criteria before placing an order. This helps to align the test bench configuration with the desired test result.
